Smithsonian Honors Coach Gayle Hatch

Coach Gayle Hatch served as the men’s head weightlifting coach at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece. The uniform he wore at the Opening Ceremonies of the 2004 Olympic Games is part of the permanent collection of the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian in Washington D. C. When the museum opened a crowd of 40,000 Native Americans gathered at the foot of the capital.  Hatch a member of the Delaware Indian Tribe says in this city of monuments there was no statue, no monument honoring  the American Indian. This monument  is a long overdue and will be around for generations for Americans to enjoy.
