Delaware Tribe Honors Coach Hatch
Chief Joe Brooks of the Delaware Indian Tribe gave Coach Gayle Hatch his Indian name (Cheet-tah-nee-naw). Translated in English it is “He who is strong”. The name was given to Coach Hatch at the Delaware Pow-Wow in Bartlesville, Oklahoma in May of 2005. Coach Hatch is a member of the American Indian Athletic Hall of Fame. He was selected in two categories, basketball and Olympics. Coach Hatch served as the men’s head weightlifting coach at the 2004 Olympic Games.
